Book Reviewing
All the books I review have either been paid for by myself or have been given freely by the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review. I receive no payment for my reviews.
I’m currently unable to take on more review requests due to the overwhelming demand and currently I have no plans to reopen requests officially.
I find positives in every book and make sure this is mentioned along with any negative comments and my reviews get posted on my blog, Goodreads and Amazon.uk
My ratings are as follows :-
1 Star – Unreadable (So far I’ve never had a 1* book)
2 Star – I didn’t like the book
3 Star – I liked the book but there were few things I didn’t like or would have changed
4 Star – I loved the book and there was one or two things i didn’t like or would have changed
5 Star – I loved the book and i wouldn’t change a thing about it
Do I tag authors in reviews on social media?
Certainly, no review I write is meant to be overly critical. My aim is to connect readers and authors and tagging in any social media reviews helps this. I want to support authors so even if they read the review or not i’d like them to see I’m sharing my love of their work.
10 Questions with feature/Guest blog posts
Every so often I run a 10 questions with feature or host a guest blog. Only authors I wish to feature here are published. These are simply authors I enjoy or will be reviewing shortly and I like to share an insight with fellow readers.
If you’re an author I’ve reviewed or will be reviewing and wish to take part in such a feature please get in touch.
Promotions/Author Spotlights
Once in while I might feature a book promo but rest assured if I do so this is because it’s a brilliant deal and I have the book already or will be buying it myself. I will not feature books/collections from authors I’ve not reviewed previously. Any promotion I do is free and is done to help spread the word as far as I can to support the author whose work I enjoy.
Author spotlights are exactly that.. I pick the authors I wish to shout to the world about.. I love their work and wish to share the joy I get with as many of you as I can.
Please do not ask me to promo your work or do an author spotlight. These posts are of my choosing and I receive nothing in return apart from the joy of reading.
David, I’m happy to have come across your blog. I’ve read some of your reviews and I think you do a very fair job. I am emailing you a pdf of my recent Viking novel, “Odin’s Child” along with a press release about it. I hope you will find time to review it.
Regards,

Hi Bruce,
Thanks, I’m glad you like my reviewing style. I’m honest with my views and take each book on its own merits and so far I’ve not had any complaints :). I would certainly like to review your book and I thank you for the opportunity

Hello David
It’s great to come across a book blog from another fellow northern guy. I’ve read a few of your reviews, and have been impressed by the depth and even handedness of them. It would be great if you could find the time to review my novel ‘Tales of Engines & Demons’. It’s a Sci-fi piece, but leans heavily towards Fantasy, and has Steampunk elements to it.You can find more details on my website, but I’ll E-mail you over a mobi file, along with the details.
Thanks
Matt

When you do take on new books I’d appreciate your thoughts on my first book Rome Falls, set in 390 B.C. (99p on Kindle). Book 3 is available at the end of this week. I’d really value your opinion
